1st WEBSITE CALENDAR QUARTER REPORT – SEPTEMBER 30, 2020.
CARES ACT REPORTING ON EMERGENCY FINANCIAL AID GRANTS TO STUDENTS
On March 27, 2020, the Federal government enacted the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act
(CARES Act), Pub L. No. 116-136, providing funds to institutions from the Higher Education Emergency
Relief Fund (HEERF) to make Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students for expenses related to the
disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus, including eligible expenses under s student’s cost of
attendance, such as food, course materials, technology, health care, and child care. The law requires institutions
to report certain information related to the use of these funds. The following information is reported for the
period, September 15, 2020 to September 30, 2020.
I. This statement shall serve to acknowledge that our institution signed and returned to the US Department
of Education the Certification and Agreement – Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students. We
further attest that our institution has used, and/or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds
received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to
II. The total amount of funds that the institution has received from the Department pursuant to the
institution’s Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Student is
III. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1)
of the CARES Act as of September 15, 2020, is $179,600.00.
IV. The estimated total number of students at our institution eligible to participate in programs under
Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency
Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 750.
V. The total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under
Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to date is 453.
VI. The following is the method used by our institution to determine which students receive Emergency
Financial Aid Grants and how much each student has received/will receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of
the CARES Act.
The Total Amount of UCS students who are ACTIVES under TITLE IV will receive a STUDENT
CARES GRANT CHECK.
– For students that are enrolled in the smallest financial aid programs (Instructor Training 600 Clock
hour, Patient Care Technician 640 Clock hour and Full Specialist 750 Clock hour programs) a Cares
check of $300.00 will be disbursed.
– For students that are enrolled in the largest Financial Aid programs (Cosmetology 1200 Clock hour,
Barber 1200 Clock hour and Nursing (AS) 72 credits 2 years long period programs) a Cares check of
$400.00 will be disbursed.
VII. The follow instructions/directions/guidance was provided by our institution to students
concerning the Emergency Financial Aid Grants.
THE UNIVERSAL CAREERS SCHOOL WEBSITE will be updated with the required information
regarding the total amount of CARE FUNDS received by the Department of Education, the total amount of
student care subsidy funds, and an updated report of funds of student care disbursed every calendar quarter.
– All UCS students who are eligible to receive Cares Grant Aid Funds will be contacted by phone to confirm
their current and physical address. A notification email will be sent to all involved students and a Student
Care Check will be sent to them. A copy of those Student Care Checks will be kept IN THE student
financial aid file.
– The UCS Financial Aid Office will constantly track the Student Care Check, Disbursed Funds and funds
still available. Each semester or for each pay period, UCS will disburse funds for new students. A second
round of student CARES checks has also been considered and planned for new and current students.
